Have you been trying for more than six months with no results? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. In fact, I learned that getting pregnant is way harder for many people than you thought it was (thanks to your health teacher scaring you straight in junior high). Nearly 10% of all women have difficulty getting pregnant (that is equivalent to about 6.1 million women). So, you are certainly not alone. And, you don’t have to turn to infertility treatments just yet. Here are a few things you can do to improve your fertility naturally, without the help of a specialist!

Lose Weight: Women (or men for that matter) who are overweight tend to struggle with fertility. It seems that women who are overweight over produce certain hormones, and this messes with ovulation. If you believe you weigh more than you should (or if your doctor feels you are), don’t be afraid to embrace cardio sweat sessions to shed pounds. I tried to get pregnant for over two years and after I lost 30 pounds, I instantly became pregnant!

Eat Right: Exercise and eating right go hand in hand. When you eat well and eat clean, your body is getting plenty of vitamins and nutrients that are essential for healthy menstrual cycles. Consume a multivitamin (with folic acid just in case!) and load upon protein, iron, zinc, vitamin C and vitamin D!

Stop Drinking: By all means, enjoy a glass of wine from time to time. But, if you’re trying to get pregnant (and not having much luck), your alcohol consumption may be the problem. Studies show that drinking regularly (or even several drinks a week) could mess with your estrogen levels, which could greatly impact implantation.

Try Some Natural Supplements:

Many women swear by Royal Jelly. It’s filled with amino acids, vitamins and minerals you need for fertility purposes, and it helps balance hormones. It also is known to assist with your endocrine function. You can find it online or in any health food store. Women trying to conceive usually take a 1,000 mg dose.

If making a baby is taking some time, try to relax. There are many ways, especially now to start a family. And you may need to do nothing more than take of yourself with good nutrition and exercise so that you’re your healthiest in the process!
